okay, i’m clearly having some kind of design identity crisis because i’m all of sudden so drawn to color and lots of it! who am i? i may not be able to pull this amount of color off in my own home, but i definitely have an admiration for this change in scenery and find the trend really inspiring and uplifting. i hope you do, too — if for nothing more than to get your creative juices and design ideas flowing in these darker and somewhat drearier winter days. oh, and if you’re looking for some holiday gift ideas, i’ve tried to create a unique and colorful gift guide on pinterest. have a great weekend everyone!

- this lovely living room is actually a showroom — it’s the brainchild of interior designers olivier garcé and clio dimofski in collaboration with furniture designer ian felton. feeling creatively stifled during covid quarantine, the trio came up with the quite genius idea of transforming their beautiful new york brownstone apartment into a conceptual design ‘showroom’. for more visit milk decoration.
- i love this very eclectic and colorful bedroom art ‘gallery’ featured on my Scandinavian home. it’s a wonderfully unexpected collection of unique artworks and vintage mirrors and paired with the bold prints and bedding looks absolutely smashing. you can visit the full Copenhagen home tour here.
- i constantly find myself wishing i had super high ceilings and mostly because i love huge, oversized lighting. this one made from blown transparent orange glass is particularly fabulous and like a blast right out of the 1970’s. designed by Johanna Grawunder it’s the ’27 Spheres Orange’ Ceiling Light from her pillow talk collection and certainly way out of my price range, but we can admire it from afar, can’t we?
- while this draped entryway is actually a retail installation for a Melbourne, Australia clothing boutique camilla and marc, i think it makes for such an interesting and dramatic way to treat a doorway — one without a door, of course! the color palette is pretty dreamy, too.
- how about this for a cozy little reading spot after a day skiing the chilly slopes of the french alps? it’s just one great built-in nook at the alpine-chic hotel Le Coucou in the ski resort of Méribel designed by french interior designer Pierre Yovanovitch. oh to jet-set here for a week or so! have a peek at the incredible chateau here.
- this doorway is pretty exceptional, too. i love how the various bold paint colors create such dimension, almost like a work of art. it’s the home and museum of the german writer, poet, and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe also known as goethe house in Weimar, Germany — should you find yourself in that neck of the world, drop in to see it in person.
- i find this to be a brilliant idea for a headboard. it looks perhaps to be an old non-functioning fireplace repurposed as a beautiful headboard, complete with a shelf for pictures and small collectibles. I’ll bet you could find a mantel like this in an architectural salvage yard and diy your own.
- one more very dramatic entrance to provide you with food for thought — i love the bright blue walls leading you into the living room and its fantastic rust-colored velvet mohair sofa from the very dreamy Parisian charles zana collection. the contrasting colors look smashing together and again, add a lot of depth and dimension. love it!
